Hidden Gems in Niagara-on-the-Lake

Want to eat, shop and walk around like a local?  We have the inside scoop!  Let me introduce you to all you need to know in Niagara-on-the-Lake and surrounding areas.

More Popular Areas

You may know about the world class Shaw Theatre and the amazing line up there.  You may also know about the incredible history on Fort George.  You may also know all about our world famous wineries.  But let's delve deeper into the little nooks and crannies that Niagara-on-the-Lake has to offer.

How about a visit to a museum?  The Niagara Apothecary Museum is located on Queen Street which is the main street in Niagara-on-the-Lake.  The museum is an authentic restoration of a pharmacy that actually operated in Niagara-on-the-Lake from 1820 to 1964. If you like historic medicine or even just curious this is a must stop.  Many visitors just walk by not knowing what its all about.  Check out the website and see if its something you and your guests may be interested in visiting.

Did you know that Niagara-on-the-Lake was voted Canada's prettiest town?  Yes you probably did.  But did you know that it was also voted Canada's Most Haunted Town?  Yes, that's right!  Check out  Ghost Walks and come take a stroll down Niagara-on-the-Lakes most haunted town.  FYI...Did you also know that Stephen Kings movie "The Dead Zone" was also filmed here and you can see many of Niagara-on-the-Lakes popular icons in the movie.  Take a walk around to see if you can see any!

Well while were on the topic of spooky, anyone hear of the famous Screaming Tunnels?  I won't get into the history of it here but check it out if you dare!  It's just outside of the city so check it out.

Let's take a step back in time in one of our Heritage Sites on the Niagara Parkway.  Brock's Monument measures 185 feet high and if you are able, definitely climb the 235 steps up to the top where you will see spectacular views of the Niagara River.  It's definitely worth the nominal fee!  Such history here its a must visit!  Many other heritage sites are situated in and around Niagara-on-the-Lake.

Niagara Falls is a whole other page to write about so watch for that soon.  However, if your already in town there is a little gem of a restaurant that is tucked away on Queen Street (same street name different city) in downtown Niagara Falls.  Not a great looking street but safe enough.  Paris Crepes is a favourite of locals and visitors alike.  French onion soup is something to write home about! Crepes of course but you will also find an amazing Charcuterie board here with fine wines to pair with.  Check out their website as they often have special events that you may be in town for.

These are just a few of the hidden gems that Niagara-on-the-Lake has to offer.  So many areas to see and visit.  Give Janet at call at Niagara Holiday Rentals to help you plan  your next visit.  She is full on so much information and can help you plan your perfect holiday.  Looking forward to hearing from you.
