High Season has started!

Added: May 24, 2016
Category: What's up

We are off to a great start for the high season this year!   Bookings are still coming in, it’s harder and harder to find empty dates!!

This year is going to be really busy in the town too!  The traffic jam on Hwy 55 was backed up to the traffic circle in Virgil several times this past Victoria Day Weekend.  The Council of Niagara-on-the-Lake is trying to figure out ways to alleviate traffic coming in to town and that includes improving Lakeshore Rd with wider shoulders and bike lakes (part of the Active Transportation Committee initiatives).  Also some wineries and business located outside of old town are going to participate in the park and peddle program.   In addition there has been lots of work done to sidewalks and walking / bike paths to make it easier to get around town!

We are seeing a real boost in Canadian’s from other provinces coming to town as well as Americans looking to enjoy their big discount!   Guests are coming from all over the North American Continent as well as the UK and even South America!   New comers will be especially blown away because we are once again in competition to be Canada’s pretties little town by participating in the Community in Blooms campaign.  The judging will be in July, so stay tuned for the results!  Guests that are returning for their annual Niagara-on-the-Lake fix, will see some big changes on Queen St.  We have a new pizzeria, a new breakfast place (Sunset Grill), and a new Thai restaurant going in to where John Forsyth Gallery was, across from the old hospital.

This weekend starts the Farmer’s Market on Saturday mornings and the supper market on Wednesday evenings.  If you want to know what’s happening here is the link http://marketatthevillage.ca/  !

Niagara Falls, Niagara-on-the-Lake and the whole Niagara Region are experiencing increased tourism traffic.  So if you have your heart set on doing something, like the Niagara Jet Boat, the Horn Blower, renting bikes from (Grape Escape or Zoom) or reservations for dining out , always best to make reservations before you depart from home!

We also have a couple new contacts for catering small dinner parties at your house!  Renown Chef Stacie Royds has won many alkaloids including winning on Chopped!   I have had some baking lessons from Stacie, and while it was a blast, some of my results just didn’t seem to look like hers!!  Lesson learned, hire Stacie to do the cooking and I can just kick back and relax!  The other caterer that has approached us is Flutes & Forks – Janet Bowman and Justin Salomone are looking forward to cooking up something special and giving you a “Food & Wine Experience in Your Home”!

New wineries are spring up and the Niagara College just announced that they are building a distillery to be open fall 2017?  We are definitely going to be the place to visit for lots of reasons!

We are looking forward to a great season and seeing what else is new in town.  Often our guests educate us!   Please remember to like us on Face book and post some pictures of your visit here!  We’d love to see what you enjoyed most about staying with Niagara Holiday Rentals!
